Chapter 1 The Black Twins

November 3, 1959.

In the delivery room at No. 12 Grimmauld Place, the air was full of tension and solemnity.

Walburga Black lay on the four-poster bed, her long hair soaked with sweat.

There were three witches who were proficient in healing magic surrounding the bed in the room. Their robes were embroidered with the coat of arms of the Black family, the double star and the Sirius.

The hearth burns with a deep indigo family ritual flame.

"Harder, madam," whispered Alma, the chief witch, the yew wand in her hand drawing gentle arcs in the air.

When the clock struck the eleventh stroke of midnight, the cry of the baby broke the silence.

Orion Black stood beside the bed, his face solemn.

He was wearing a dark green robe, with a family brooch on his collar and a Sirius star inlaid with black diamonds. At the age of thirty, he was already the thirteenth generation head of the family.

Walburga smiled weakly: "Let me hold him."

The baby was placed in her arms, and she stared down at the wrinkled little face, gently stroking the strand of black fetal hair on his forehead that was destined to become unyielding curls.

"His name?" Orion asked.

Walburga answered without hesitation: "Sirius, the brightest star in the night sky, the never-lost navigator, will lead the Black family to new glory."

The portraits on the wall nodded, and a female ancestor wearing a high Victorian collar whispered: "A good name, but remember, the brightest stars can be obscured by storms."

"Welcome to the Black family, Sirius." Orion leaned over and whispered: "May you be worthy. It deserves this name."

...

The nursery at No. 12 Grimmauld Place is located in the east wing of the third floor. The room is covered with dark green carpets and moving magic tapestries hang on the walls, depicting the great achievements of Black's ancestors.

One of the ancestors tamed the Peruvian Vipertusk, and the other guarded Gringotts during the Goblin Rebellion.

There is another, pictured looking haughtily down the room, who served as Minister for Magic, although he only lasted four months before being forced to resign.

One afternoon when Sirius was ten months old, Walburga was receiving her sister Druella Black in the next room. Kreacher stood by the cradle, arranging the silk quilt with his slender fingers.

Sirius stood up unsteadily, holding on to the railing. His calves were not strong enough to support him for long, but he just stood there, his gray eyes staring at a silver bell toy on the carpet three feet away.

He stretched out his hand, and the silver bell rolled half an inch toward him.

Kreacher gasped, and then started banging his head on the nearest table leg: "Bad Kreacher! He didn't notice the little master's magical awakening! Bad! Bad!"

When Walburga rushed into the room, his face was filled with ecstasy: "He stood up! It's only been ten months! Orion, did you see that?"

Oray En stood at the door, with a complicated expression on his face: "It's too early, it's too early to awaken the magic power."

"This is a talent!" Walburga picked up his son and pressed a series of kisses on his cheek: "My Sirius, you were born to do great things."

From that day on, pure-blood education began.

Every afternoon, Walburga would sit in front of the family tapestry with Sirius in his arms. The tapestry occupied the entire wall and embroidered a thousand-year pedigree of the Black family with gold and silver threads.

Some branches were scorched, the marks of those who were delisted, like ugly scars.

"Look here," Walburga pointed to the top of the tapestry: "This is our first ancestor, Linfred Blake, the twelfth-century healer who laid the foundation of the family."

When Sirius was one year old, he could already speak complete sentences. One afternoon, he pointed to a burnt name on the tapestry and asked: "What's wrong there?"

Walburga's face darkened: "That was your cousin Cedral. She made an unforgivable mistake and married a Muggle, so her name was burned and wiped from the family. Never make such a mistake, Sirius."

......

January 15, 1961.

The winter of 1961 was extremely cold. The streets of London were covered with snow and thin ice formed on the edge of the Thames. But at 12 Grimmauld Place, protective magic kept the interior warm as spring.

Walburga's second delivery was harder than the first.

Starting at midnight on January 14, the labor pains lasted for a full sixteen hours.

At three o'clock in the morning on January 15, Walburga's screams reached their peak.

Immediately afterwards, the baby's cry sounded, which was softer and shorter than Sirius's cry.

Orion stepped forward quickly and asked Walburga: "His name?"

Walburga looked at the unusually quiet child in his arms. He opened the Black family's iconic gray eyes and looked at everything around him calmly.

"Regulus," she whispered: "The heart of Leo, the second brightest star in the sky, unassuming, but indispensable, firm, loyal, and eternal."

Orion gave him a middle name: "Regulus Attalus Black."

Walburga placed Regulus into the cradle and almost immediately fell into a tired sleep.

Orion stood between the two cradles. On the left, two-year-old Sirius was sleeping soundly in his own cradle. One hand reached out of the railing, holding his favorite silver bell toy.

On the right, the newborn Regulus was lying quietly with his eyes open. He was looking at Sirius in the cradle opposite.

While sleeping, Sirius seemed to sense something, turned over, and turned towards his younger brother.

Regulus rolled his eyes, and there lay a two-year-old boy. That was Sirius, the man in the original book who betrayed his family for his beliefs and eventually died behind the curtain, his brother.

Deep in the soul, the adult soul from another world sighed silently.

Then, he used the baby's immature brain to organize the first clear thought:

"I will not repeat the tragedy of Regulus, I will take a different path."

Out the window, the night sky in London was rarely clear.

The winter constellations are clearly visible, Orion hangs high in the south, Taurus shines in the east, and between them is Sirius, the brightest star in the night sky.

Not far away, the star Regulus in the constellation Leo shines quietly, slightly dim, but firm.

......

On the day Sirius turned two, Walburga held a small celebration in the garden.

Although only close relatives of the Black family were invited, the scene was still grand. The house elves used magic to make the roses bloom in winter, the silver tableware automatically flew up and arranged, and even the fountain in the garden was temporarily changed to spray lemon juice because Sirius liked sour taste.

At the banquet, Regulus was sitting on Walburga's lap.

He was wearing an exquisite dark green velvet baby clothes, with a small silver brooch on his collar. He didn't look at anyone, just stared into the distance.

"What is he looking at?" Walburga followed his son's line of sight and saw that it was the garden wall. The wall was covered with ancient vines, nothing special.

"Maybe he's looking at the glint on the vines," Druella guessed: "The sun shines on the dew, and it sparkles beautifully."

But in the direction Regulus was looking, there was actually a nest of Bowtruckles there. Those little creatures were hidden deep in the vines and could not be seen by ordinary people, not even wizards.

But every time the Bowtruckle moves, the surrounding magic will be slightly disturbed.

Regulus could feel it, but through the conversation between Druella and Walburga, he guessed that they might not feel it.

Walburga hesitated for a long time after that, and finally asked Orion hesitantly one afternoon: "Is Regulus...a little slow to react?"

At that time, Regulus was one year and three months old, and Sirius, who was the same age, could already run around the house and speak in complete sentences.

Regulus, on the other hand, was always unusually quiet, rarely making sounds, and reacting slowly to external stimuli.

Orion put down the Daily Prophet and walked to the nursery, followed by Walburga.

Regulus was sitting on the carpet at this time, with a magic picture book spread out in front of him. It was "Fantastic Beasts that Move" for children over three years old. In the book, the hippogriff could flap its wings, and the ball escaper would suddenly disappear and reappear.

Orion observed for ten minutes.

Then he walked over and knelt down, looked level with his son, and said to Walburga: "Look at his eyes, Walburga."

Walburga also knelt down and looked into Regulus's eyes, but could not see anything strange.

Orion continued: "He is not slow to react, he is listening, watching, learning, and observing at the same time, but he is a little silent."

As if to confirm his words, Regulus raised his head and took the initiative to look at his father for the first time.

Gray eyes against gray eyes.

Walburga didn't know why, but she breathed a sigh of relief quietly. She believed in her husband's judgment that her son was not unresponsive.
